The MSc program in Human Biology and Environment aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the environment and its impact on human health and lifestyle. Specifically, the program explores the intricate relationship between the environment and human health with the objective of achieving various goals, including:

  • Identifying the impact of different chemical compounds on the human body, particularly through nutrition.
  • Enhancing knowledge of vectors responsible for the transmission of pathogens and their effects on human populations.
  • Investigating the observed effects in humans in terms of metabolic response, immunological aspects, and adaptation to stress.

Through this program, students will develop skills in various areas, such as inferring the impact of diverse chemical compounds on humans, animals, and the environment, studying the transmission of vectors responsible for pathogenic dissemination, and deducing metabolic, immunological, and stress adaptations in response to environmental constraints.

Upon completion of this MSc program, graduates can pursue a range of career opportunities, including research work in public health, senior positions in food and pharmaceutical industries, laboratories affiliated with hospitals and other health institutions, such as the National Institute of Public Health Dr. Ricardo Jorge and the Portuguese Institute of Oncology. Additionally, opportunities exist in the field of medico-legal investigations, such as at the National Institute of Forensic Science and Laboratory of Judicial Police, as well as in quality control.
